John Tanner
Founder & Lead Architectural Designer
A native of Champaign, John became obsessed with design in grade school. While in Junior High and High School, he took art and design classes after school and on weekends at the University of Illinois. He studied Design and Art History at Parkland College. While there, John took additional courses at the University of Illinois, from where he graduated in 1987 with a degree in Interior Design.
After working with Hallbeck Homes for 18 years, John founded JET Home Designs in 2006. Our success is based on the simple principle that distinctive custom home design should be reasonably priced, and backed up with superior client service.
John stays on top of custom home design trends through a commitment to continuing education, conference and trade show attendance, and residential and industrial design publications. This dual dedication to staying current, and providing quality custom design has resulted in John winning the Showcase of Homes People’s Choice Award for excellence in home design several times.
As a lifetime member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, John gives back to the community through volunteer work and donations to the Don Moyers Boys and Girls Club, Urbana Early Childhood School, and the Junior League. John provided pro bono design work for Mahomet’s Wounded Warrior Home project in 2012.
John is a registered Interior Designer with the State of Illinois.
